Regional planning and community engagement across Nevada

Project Overview

Winnemucca is situated in Humboldt County, Nevada. The Humboldt Development Authority (HDA) partnered with other local organizations to initiate a county‐wide planning and engagement process to explore the future scenarios for the local area. Gold mining, rare minerals, tourism and agriculture dominated the area’s economy.
The Winnemucca Futures Project was designed to proactively promote public interest by encouraging community growth and sustainable development through communication and collaboration. The first Winnemucca Futures Forum was held in 2012 and continues to date. The Futures Forum intends to provide an annual opportunity for members of the regional community to assemble to think about the future.

Large-scale community engagement process, involving over 500 citizens.
Design and facilitation of Scenario Planning process.
Network mapping across the regional community, to build new partnerships and coalitions.
Training of local facilitators to play The Future Game across the community
Forming of local teams at the ‘Vision to Action’ workshop
Creation of a regional vision for the county.
