One of the most pressing issues in many regions throughout the Midwestern United States is both the aging and availability of the workforce. These communities face a potential “demographic cliff” as years of declining birth rates, the outmigration of young adults, and the aging of the Baby Boomer generation have raised concerns in private industry, as well as in the economic development, education, and workforce development professions. Future iQ Partners has significant experience in working with communities to address these issues through a combination of attraction, development and retention. This is coupled with an innovative analytic approach that pairs demographic trends with industry and employment forecasts to provide strategic insights into both the scope and impact of these workforce challenges. These issues and potential solutions are highlighted in the Regional Workforce Needs Analysis recently completed for the Greater Lima (Ohio) Region under a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense, Office of Economic Adjustment.
