When facing an economic shift, it is important that a municipality or region is able to retain its identity. This is important so that the residents of the area to feel comfortable in planning for and transitioning to a new economic model that their home will not become another place. This work requires completing an asset inventory and stakeholder engagement to determine what strengths are available to build the economy on, and what the people that live there feel is special and unique about their location. Currently, Future iQ is conducting an asset inventory and scenario planning process with the Moosehead Lake Region in Maine, to plan for economic transition from being formerly based on forestry, to a mix of nature-based tourism and supporting economic initiatives. They’re goals are to increase the population and expand the tourism season while maintaining the natural and cultural character of the area.
