Regional Defense Industry Collaboration across New England

Project Overview

The states of Vermont, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island have been awarded a joint grant from the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) to create The New England Regional Defense Industry Collaboration. The New England Regional Defense Industry Collaboration will coordinate the growth of defense-related businesses across the six-state New England region. The primary goals will be to aid small and midsize businesses in meeting new cybersecurity requirements for businesses participating in the defense industry supply chain, as well as to create a trusted supplier network that will make it easier for large defense contractors to locate smaller suppliers that are able to meet their production, certification and process requirements.

Future iQ®'s Role in this Project

Future iQ has been contracted by The State of Vermont to provide project management for the New England Regional Defense Industry Collaboration initiative.

    • Collaboration is the key focus of this project. Future iQ was contracted as Program Manager for NERDIC since its inception in 2019. This has included the day to day running of the project, communications with State Leadership and Industry members from the six states and with the Dept. of Defense Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation (OLDCC).
    • Scenario-Based Strategic Planning was used to create plausible futures for the defense section in the region at the NERDIC Think-Tank workshop in 2019. This resulted in the NERDIC Think-Tank Report.
    • In-depth background research was conducted by Future iQ resulting in the Review of Planning Efforts from OLDCC funded Regional Efforts.
    • The NERDIC website was produced as the ‘go to place’ for the project including video interviews with stakeholders.
    • Social Media platforms were produced via Facebook and LinkedIn and a Social Media and Marketing Toolkit was provided for NERDIC members.
    • Surveys were conducted and presented via Data Visualization.
    • Network Mapping was conducted to establish the existing and potential ecosystem across the six-state region.
    • The Program Manager final report was produced in December 2021, prior to the next round of OLDCC funding for Phase 3 of the NERDIC project.
