There is a demand for participatory planning processes to be implemented across Tenerife, within The Canary Islands. A world famous tourist destination and a place of natural beauty and cultural heritage, Tenerife is the largest and most populated island of the seven Canary Islands. The city of San Cristobal de La Laguna is known as the cultural capital of Tenerife, and is the second most populated city in Tenerife. The historic centre of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the oldest university in the Canary Islands is within La Laguna. However, the city and region are faced with challenges. These challenges include high rates of unemployment and lack of industry in the region. Future iQ are collaborating with partners, EVM a Tenerife based innovative consulting firm to share planning methodologies to meet the needs of the region. The collaborative process has included training the EVM team in Future iQ’s methodologies and will involve joint projects in 2017.
